Summary
Our project aims to provide a meaningful voice to European young women coming from diverse backgrounds by increasing their participation in the democratic process. The project takes an intersectional approach, hence engaging 1080 young women aged 18-29 from 6 European countries who are part of under-represented groups (vulnerable and disadvantaged youth, such as women of colour, LBTQ+, migrant, disabled, and working class). The project creates a transnational network of 75 European young women based on solidarity, inclusive democratic participation and active citizenship, and enables them to organise, plan and strategise online and offline, around gender issues that negatively impact their lives. The network is also a practice phase into active citizenship as a Steering Committee will be elected in order to create ownership and motivation for the women involved.
The young women targeted through the project will have a say in European debates around gender issues by developing active democratic citizenship competences through trainings, toolkits, and networking (180pax); by being involved in public consultations regarding gender issues negatively impacting their lives (900pax); and by co-creating policy recommendations based on the results from the public consultations (75pax) which will then be presented to 185 local, national and European decision-makers through an advocacy campaign. The advocacy campaign will culminate with a 3-day visit to Brussels where the Steering Committee will engage European decision-makers. The Steering Committee will also go on a study visit to Iceland where they will learn good practices from Icelandic institutions and NGOs on gender equality. A Summer School will take place in Romania where the network will connect and plan for the future.
Engaging, connecting, empowering and supporting young women across Europe to imagine and advocate for better ways of designing a more inclusive Europe is at the heart of this project.
