Summary
Background
Young people in Europe are rather social and political apathic, less involved and interested in politics in their countries and also in democratic expression as citizens. Statistics were showing that young people vote less, care less and generally have other priorities then civic participation in their countries. Media, social media, information easily found on internet usually can fuel tensions, anger and frustration of vulnerable young people which lack strong critical thinking.
Objectives
The goal was to increase the capacity of the youth work sector to raise the civic participation and involvement of young people in democratic and policy-making process; Specific Objectives were:
– To introduce innovative methodologies in youth work field;
– To raise the capacity of partners to operate in policy-making field;
– To stimulate the exchange of best practices in working with authorities;
– To stimulate the development of a network of Theatre of the Oppressed in Europe;
Implementation

– Kick-off Meeting (Poland)

– Training course – legislative theatre in Madeira
– Practice phase 1 in each community (5 legislative theatre events for at least 50 young people (in each event)
– Mid evaluation
– Training course – newspaper theatre in Romania
– Second practice phase in each community (5 newspaper theatre events 50 people/each event)
– Festival of Theatre of the Oppressed in Hungary
– Evaluation meeting in Norway
Results
– A network of organizations using Theatre of the Oppressed
– A team of 29 facilitators in theatre of the oppressed field
– 17 plays developed
– 70 performances
– 115 volunteers who were involved in local performances as actors and support members.
– 2630 direct beneficiaries, mostly young people
– 67 additional local partners.
– 6020 indirect beneficiaries
– 2 manuals on Legislative and Newspaper Theatre
– 1 project movie
